Gunmen Storm Military Barracks in Bauchi, Kill Garrison Commander

Unknown gunmen reportedly killed Col. Mohammed Barack, the Garrison Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade of Nigerian Army in Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi, Bauchi State.

The shocking murder of the senior army officer has thrown residents of the city into chaos.

Col Mohammed was reportedly killed on Bauchi – Jos Road on Sunday while he was riding a Power Bike from Kaduna. It is not yet clear if he was assassinated or it was a case of armed robbery.

The incident was confirmed by a source who spoke to Punch, saying: “The Garrison Commander of 33 Artillery Brigade of Nigerian Army (Shadawanka Barracks) Bauchi, Col. Mohammed Barack, has been shot dead. He was shot on Sunday along Jos Road, while on Power Bike and was coming back from Kaduna; he is from Kano State,”

It was gathered that the deceased would be conveyed to Kano for burial according to Islamic tradition.

The spokesperson of 33 Artillery Brigade, Major Yahaya Nasir Kabara, confirmed the incident saying, “Yes, it’s true.”

When pressed for details, he said: “Come to the Brigade because it is a matter that needs investigation; investigation is ongoing.”
