A governor in Kenya, Alfred Mutua, became the butt of jokes after he fell off a bridge while taking a selfie alongside his deputy, Joash Maangi.
Luckily for both men, crowds gathered at the event pulled them out of the river and rushed them to Ogembo Hospital in Kisii county.
The incident came in the wake of criticism of the governor for “county-trotting while a bridge in his backyard, developed cracks”.
According to local media, Mutua and his deputy had bent over to check the depth of the bridge, before deciding to mark the occasion with a selfie when the incident took place.
Kisii communication director Maseme Machuka was quoted as saying the bridge was weak.
“The governor and DG were unhurt in the incident and they went on to address residents before going for lunch,” Machuka was quoted to have said.
Two journalists who reportedly sustained minor injuries were taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, Machuka added.
