Google is set to launch a new design for its Gmail web interface soon that includes “several new features”.
The tech giant says the new features will be made available to regular Gmail accounts as it promises a “fresh, clean look for Gmail on the web.”
Some of the top new features include Smart Reply, the ability to snooze emails, and offline support.
“We’re working on some major updates to Gmail (they’re still in draft phase),” a Google spokesperson said.
“We need a bit more time to compose ourselves, so can’t share anything yet”.
While the company hasn’t revealed exactly what the new design for Gmail looks like, it did recently launch a new design for Google Calendar, updated with modern icons, colours, and cleaner event boxes.
The design has the overall look of the mobile app, and there’s every likelihood that Gmail itself will be updated in a similar way.
Google last radically redesigned Gmail for its separate Inbox app back in 2014, but the company has stuck to the original Gmail design so far for its web version.
According to Google, the Gmail redesign will be available in the coming weeks as an early access program for G Suite customers and personal Gmail accounts.
The company says it is looking to test critical Chrome extensions, to ensure the new Gmail experience is compatible before it’s widely available.
So, hold your horses for now…
