Nigeria’s D’Tigers returned to winning ways at the ongoing FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers second round by edging Central Africa Republic 72-59 in Abidjan on Saturday.
This comes after the D’Tigers had lost 76-42 to ‘Les Elephants’ of Cote d’Ivoire in their opening game on Friday to bring an end to their nine game unbeaten run in the Group F qualifiers.
Alex Nwora’s side drew the first quarter 14-14 but won the second quarter 11-18 before consolidating with a 15-21 win in the third. There’s no separating both sides in the fourth quarter as they played 19-19, but it was enough to see the Nigerians through.
Ikenna Iroegbu scored a double double bagging 17 points and ten rebounds while Ike Diogu posted 22 points and ten rebounds.
Mike Umeh scored 11 points and bagged four rebounds, picking up from his impressive display against Cote d’Ivoire.
D’Tigers will face Senegal in their final group game on Sunday.
