Fergie Breaks Silence Since National Anthem Backlash: ‘I Honestly Tried My Best’

Fergie has finally spoken up since the whole of America came for her neck following her disastrous performance at the NBA All-Stars game on Sunday.

In case you missed it, the Big Girls Don’t Cry singer was invited to perform the national anthem before the game, and her rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner was so ‘unique’ fans and trolls took to social media to drag her for filth. In fact, she became a meme. And following the backlash, she turned off he Instagram comment section, to keep the trolls away.

Fergie’s rendition has now been branded the worst ever, because it seemingly was so bad that Roseanne Barr, who previously held the title for the worst national anthem performance, took to her page to diss Fergie. “Who saw Fergie’s national anthem performance at the NBA All Star Game? I think mine was better lowkey,” Barr said.

Now, the former Fergie has spoken up about what happened on Sunday.

“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem, and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” she said in a statement to E! News, adding, “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best”.

Will she ever be given the opportunity to redeem herself like it was in the case of Mariah Carey? We hope so!
