Nigeria team for the FIFA Under-20 Women World Cup, the Falconets received a major morale boost at their training camp when Sports Minister, Barr Solomon Dalung gave the team $7,000.
His largesse comes as the girls and their coaches had been going on without any allowances since they started training and played their qualification matches for the tournament later in the year in France, Vanguard writes.
“My passion for women’s football is high and I don’t like the idea of treating people differently.
“I don’t like injustice and it doesn’t look fair for them to be in camp without their entitlements. These are young players and if you don’t give them the morale support they need now, when will you do that?” Dalung queried.
Dalung, who was recently under fire for his role in the leadership crisis at the Nigeria Football Federation, promised to ensure that the players get all their entitlements when he gets back to work.
He wished the injured players a speedy recovery while praying for a successful outing in France later in the year.
