Unknown gunmen on Saturday shot Comfort Tuluem, the collation officer for Gboko local government area of Benue State, during the supplementary governorship election.
Tuluem, a lecturer at the University of Agriculture, Benue, was attacked on her way to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) head office in Markurdi, the state capital, on Saturday night, TheCable reports.
The attackers reportedly fired at the vehicle conveying Tuluem to the collation center and the bullet hit her on the leg along the Markurdi-Gboko road.
Sources say she was immediately taken to the hospital immediately.
Her attack was one of many incidents of violence that marred the supplementary poll.
Earlier Saturday, suspected thugs had attacked electoral officials and political party agents on their way to Chito Adzendechi council ward, headquarters of Ukum local government area of the state on Saturday morning.
They had seized and set electoral materials, preventing over 13,000 voters in the ward from participating in the exercise.
