John Legend is set to become an EGOT winner.
The singer closed in on becoming the next EGOT winner following his nomination for Emmy today. The singer-come-actor bagged a nomination in the category of Lead Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie for his role of Jesus in NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.
Legend has already won a Grammy, Oscar, and Tony over the course of his career, and with an Emmy award, he will join the prestigious group of legends (only 12!), who have bagged all the four of the award ceremonies. A list which includes stars like Rita Moreno, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, and Mel Brooks.
John Legend rose to the spotlight in 2006 when he won his first Grammy for Best New Artist, as well as Best R&B Album for Get Lifted. He has a total of eight Grammy Awards. In 2015, he won an Oscar for his song “Glory” from the movie Selma, and in 2017 he won a Tony for Best Revival of a Play as a co-producer of Jitney.
Now, he is set to add the final feather to his enviable hat.
Celebrating this news, his wife Chrissy Teigen took to Twitter to write: “13 nominations for Jesus Christ Superstar this morning! John got two emmy nominations! If he wins, he will complete his EGOT and my spike tv award will probably be moved. But it’s ok I AM SO PROUD!”
