Chelsea have informed European champions Real Madrid that they will not resume talks about goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois until they secure a replacement.
Courtois, who was excellent in goal for Belgium at the World Cup in Russia, has been linked with a €35 million move to the Spanish giants, who are also eyeing a double swap involving the goalkeeper’s compatriot, Eden Hazard.
The former Atletico Madrid loanee says he wants to be closer to his children and has declined to renew a contract with the Blues that expires next summer.
But he may yet begin 2018/19 at Stamford Bridge if a successor is not purchased with the Blues targeting Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Stoke City’s Jack Butland.
Courtois, 26, has played 154 times for Chelsea since his arrival from Genk in 2011, wining two league titles.
