Eden Hazard came off the bench to devastating effect as he provided the winner for Marcos Alonso to help Chelsea edge a thrilling London derby 3-2 over Arsenal on Saturday.
While Chelsea sit top of the Premier League table thanks to a perfect start under Maurizio Sarri, new Arsenal boss Unai Emery was condemned to a second consecutive defeat that leaves them bottom of the log.
The Blues raced to a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes through Pedro Rodriguez – after a smashing counter attack – and Alvaro Morata, who punished Arsenal’s high defensive line.
But the Gunners rallied back and were level by halftime as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi netted.
Emery’s men were left to rue wasting a host of other glorious chances – with Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all guilty – before Hazard provided the inspiration in his cameo appearance with a mazy run down the left and an inviting cross for Alonso to guide past Petr Cech and swing an enthralling encounter Chelsea’s way.
