President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday arrived in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital for the All Progressives Congress mega rally ahead of this weekend’s governorship election.
The mega rally, holding at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, seeks to canvass for votes for the party’s candidate in the election, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
Other party bigwigs at the event are Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, SSA to the President on Foreign Relations & Diaspora, Abike Dabiri, Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha, Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Dambazau (rtd), and Senator Andy Ubah.
Fayemi, seeking to return as governor after his shock loss to Ayo Fayose in 2014, resigned as Minister of Mines and Steel to return to the State House in Ado-Ekiti.
Meanwhile, Governor Fayose isn’t favourably disposed to the president’s visit and has warned him not to waste a minute further after his campaign.
Addressing some PDP stakeholders early on Tuesday in Abuja, Fayose said any attempt for the president or any of his entourage to stay a bit back in the state would spell a big doom for them.
“I am the commander in Chief of Ekiti State just like Buhari is also a commander in Chief in Abuja. I was elected like him and he too was elected.
“Let them come, campaign and go back to Abuja immediately after that. I am saying expressly that if Buhari or any of his team should stay back in the state a minute further after their campaigns, it will spell a serious doom for them.
“I have told my people to watch out for a sign that will happen to them tomorrow. I will talk to Ekiti people by 8 o’clocktonight on BSES. I will give you the update of what we are doing. Stay tuned.”
Wow! Talk about a do or die affair…
