The Nigerian Senate has adjourned plenary till after its long vacation that will see lawmakers resume sitting on September 25, 2018.
This comes after about 15 Senators on Tuesday defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to make the ruling APC the minority in the upper legislative house.
The mass defection follows an extraordinary series of events that saw the residences of the Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu in Abuja besieges by armed policemen and officials of the Department of State Security.
The Senate President’s convoy was reportedly blocked by the security operatives while he was about leaving his residence.
But in mysterious circumstances, Dr. Saraki arrived at the Senate chamber at 10:40 am to preside over plenary.
