The political turmoil rocking the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has extended to the House of Representatives where a total of 37 members announced their official defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This comes bare hours after 15 APC senators decamped to the PDP as a tsunami sweeps across the ruling party, handing over legislative control to the PDP.
In the defection letter read by House Speaker Yakubu Dogara, the lawmakers cited factionalization and division in the party as their reason for leaving.
They include 33 lawmakers from Kano, Sokoto, Kwara, Kogi and other states, who moved to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while four others from Oyo State defected to African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Dogara’s announcement threw the plenary into chaos as pro-Buhari lawmakers chanted their support for the president.
The shouting match continued as at the time of filing this report, with Dogara unable to contain the overflow of emotions.
