The General Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria, Dr. Musa Asake, is dead.
A fierce critic of the Muhammadu Buhari-led government, Asake died on Friday morning in Abuja after going down with a brief illness.
His shocking death comes almost a fortnight after he led a nationwide protest called by CAN against the killing of Christians by suspected Fulani herdsmen in most parts of the north and middle-belt region.
His brother and former member of the House of Representatives, Jonathan Asake, confirmed his passing, saying it came as a shock as he was with him only the day before (Thursday).
“Yes, he died this morning. We are right now in the mortuary. I was with him yesterday (Thursday) in his house,” he said.
An indigene of Southern Kaduna, Pastor Asake has been vocal in the defence of Christianity in Nigeria following a spike in the killing of Christians and attacks of churches by various armed groups.
CAN has yet to issue a statement on the pastor’s demise.
