President Muhammadu Buhari is presently in a closed-door meeting with governors elected under the platform of the governing All Progressives Congress.
The meeting is holding inside the Council chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
While no details of the hastily-scheduled meeting have been released, sources at the Villa say it’s about Buhari’s abrupt withdrawal of support for the tenure elongation of the John Odigie-Oyegun-led executive committee.
In a sudden twist last week, Buhari shocked members of APC National Executive Committee (NEC) when he suggested the decision to extend the tenure of APC National and State executive officials for one year be halted.
The president said his decision was hinged on the fact that the tenure elongation was against the spirit of the APC constitution and the Nigerian constitution.
While his decision undoubtedly went down well with the party’s national leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, it’s thought to have divided the governors into two camps.
