No fewer than four people have been killed in a shooting in Canada, police said in a tweet Friday.
The shooting took place in Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick, and according to local sources “the incident is ‘ongoing.’”.
“The public is asked to avoid the area and stay in their homes with doors locked at this time for their safety,” Fredericton police said.
New Brunswick, in eastern Canada, is one of the nation’s Maritime provinces.
Though relatively peaceful compared to its southern neighbour the United States, Canada has witnessed an upsurge in shooting over the past months as the authorities battle radical elements.
It remains unclear of the latest shooting is terror-related.
