Bond 25: Phoebe Waller-Bridge Addresses That Lashana Lynch Rumour

Phoebe Waller-Bridge has written a piece for The Hollywood Reporter, in which she spoke about her contributions to the upcoming flick Bond 25, and that rumor that Lashana Lynch will be taking over as the new 007.

“The whole thing has potential to birth new iconic characters all the time,” Waller-Bridge. Bond 25 is set to be Daniel Craig’s last time playing Bond.

In the official synopsis for Bond 25, the film’s titular character is “enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica” before he is pulled back into service. Nothing hints at what Lynch’s role could be. “His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”

Waller-Bridge has become the second woman ever in Bond history, joining Johanna Hardwood (Dr. NoFrom Russia With Love), to have a writing credit on the script.

“There’s something about James Bond that always intrigued me in a similar way that Villanelle did,” she said, referencing the assassin played by Jodie Comer in Killing Eve. “They live a fantasy! But it’s a life none of us would ever want, if we’re honest. We don’t want to go put a bullet in someone’s head to sleep with people and have martinis. It’s a kind of fantasy nightmare.”

Waller-Bridge added that her work on the script for Bond 25 was to add onto the groundwork already laid out by the film’s director and co-writer Cary Fukunaga. “A lot has been made of me coming on board because I’m a woman, and that’s wonderful,” she said. “But also I can’t take credit for the movie that was written. It’s Cary’s movie.”

Bond 25 is slated for a 2020 release.
