Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z have a heart of gold.
Yesterday, Bey took to her Instagram to share the video from their concert in which they gave out $100,000 scholarship to 11 high school seniors across the United States. She also shared the surprise, video-recorded announcement on beyonce.com.
The couple gave out the scholarships via their BeyGood and Shawn Carter Foundations. BeyGood was started by Beyonce, and Shawn Carter is her husband Jay-Z’s real name.
One of the lucky students turned out to be Khairi Perry of Federal Way, Washington, a former homeless boy, who went to Beyonce/Jay-Z concert in Seattle just expecting to have a good time.
“I’m so grateful. I feel so empowered,” said the 17-year-old said on the video, moments after he was surprised with the announcement. “I’ll be able to go to college. Any college I want.”
“It’s mind boggling,” he later told The News Tribune. “All my focus is on graduating high school and getting into college and pursuing my dream. I was lost in the moment until my name was called.”
