Boniface Okoloho, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ohimini local government area of Benue state, has been killed.
Mr Okoloho was said to have been ambushed and shot dead by unknown gunmen on his way home on Saturday night, TheCable writes.
Moses Yamu, spokesman of the police command, confirmed his death, saying: “I can confirm the APC chairman in the area was killed. He was killed by unknown gunmen in the night yesterday.”
Yamu added that the police have commenced investigation to unravel circumstances surrounding the sad incident and are also on the hunt for the suspects.
The tragic incident occurred on the day the presidential and national elections were scheduled to hold.
The elections have since been shifted by a week by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), citing logistical challenges.
