Mario Balotelli is back in the news, and it’s for a damn hilarious reason!
The Italy bad boy took a swing at French Ligue 1 league leaders Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Sunday’s clash with his side, Nice.
Overlooked for Italy’s recent squad for the coming international friendlies despite being on the form of his life, Balotelli unleashed some of his venom on mega-rich PSG.
Asked about the importance of the tie against PSG who are 14 points clear of the chasing lot in the league, Balotelli replied: “Paris are like Guingamp, they’re a Ligue 1 team.
“I don’t care if it’s PSG. It doesn’t make any difference.
“This season I have never watched PSG, only the last game against Real Madrid. They deserved to lose.”
The Parisians have made headlines by splashing over €400 on Neymar and Kylian Mbappe last summer, but Balotelli says there’s more to football than collecting stars.
“Money allows you to buy big players, but not a team,” the 27-year-old said, referring to PSG’s exit at the hands of Madrid at the last-16 stage of the Champions League.
While he is pleased with his return of 22 goals in 30 appearances this term, the striker admits there’s room for improvement.
“I think this has been one of the best seasons of my career,” he said. “But I can do a lot more. I hope the best is yet to come.”
The former AC Milan and Manchester City striker is out of contract at the end of the season, and is unlikely to remain at Nice following his form so far.
