The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, has lost his father, according to a statement by the Nigerian army.
In the statement signed by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, Alhaji Yusuf Buratai died in the wee hours of Friday in the Borno Sate capital Maiduguri.
Yusuf Buratai, an ex-serviceman, is the father of army chief Buratai.
Kukasheka’s statement read in part: “This is to inform you of the passing away of the father of the Chief of Army Staff, Alhaji Yusuf Buratai, this morning (Friday) in Maiduguri”.
Buratai, a veteran of World War II, joined the West African Army in 1942.
The death of Buratai’s father comes bare hours after President Muhammadu Buhari lost his sister in-law in Daura.
It’s also comes amid rising security concerns in the country, particularly the menace of armed Fulani herdsmen in the middle-belt and other states.
