Armed men kidnapped 15 girls overnight in the southeastern part of Niger Republic, the local mayor said on Saturday.
Boukar Mani Orthe, the mayor of Toumour in Niger’s Diffa region near the border with Nigeria, said about 50 unidentified armed men abducted the girls in a village about 9 km (6 miles) from the town centre, reports Standard Media.
This comes 48 hours after suspected Boko Haram terrorists killed eight people in the border town in an overnight raid.
It remains unclear is the latest kidnap is related to terrorists activities in the region as no group has claimed responsibility for the act.
Nigeria’s defence minister, Mansur Dan-Ali is presently in neighbouring Chad on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari following increased terrorists activities in the region.
