Aretha Franklin’s Family Plans to Hold Open-Casket Memorial in Detriot

TMZ is reporting that the family of the late Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, are planning to hold an open casket memorial in her home town of Detroit.

According to the blog, this was confirmed by a family source who said that the family believes that there will be a massive turnout’s expected to honour the legendary singer. And knowing that a church can’t contain the crowd, they will be her public viewing at a much larger venue– the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit.

This comes a day after Franklin died at her home in Detroit, surrounded by family and friends.

The “official cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit,” said the statement shared on behalf of Franklin’s family from her longtime publicist Gwendolyn Quinn.
