The All Atiku Support Group said it supported ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar on his rejection of the presidential election results of February 23.
According to it, a review of the presidential election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission under the ruling All Progressives Congress showed a reversal of the gains of the nation’s electoral system.
The group, comprising mostly youths, said it was certain that Atiku won the election, describing President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory as ‘broad daylight robbery’.
The group’s Secretary, Adamu Babayola, who spoke with journalists alongside leaders of other support groups, said the APC, as the major beneficiary of free and fair poll conducted in 2015 under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, had woefully failed to ensure free and fair election, Punch writes.
In its statement titled, ‘We stand with Atiku on INEC rejection’, it said, “Instead of the ruling party to make gains in our electoral system, they have rather introduced innovation in rigging tactics. These include but not limited to voter suppression in PDP strongholds and invasion of collation centres to re-write results.
“Never has the use of military in elections been so brazen like it was in the 2019 presidential elections.”
The group added, “The APC government failed woefully to follow in the hallowed footsteps of former President Jonathan who conducted a free, fair and credible election which they were a major beneficiary.
“The 2019 election instead has reversed the gains from the Jonathan era and is now a mockery of democracy.”
The group called on Atiku to remain resolute in his determination to seek justice in court, and pledged to continue to work for him and ensure the emergence of the PDP governorship candidate as the next governor of Adamawa State.
