Cristiano Ronaldo became only the second player ever to score 300 goals in La Liga after he bagged a double in Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over 10-man Getafe on Saturday.
Gareth Bale opened the scoring at a packed Santiago Bernabeu after 24 minutes, applying the finish from inside the area after Sergio Ramos and Isco had contested for a Karim Benzema cross.
Ronaldo then doubled real’s advantage just before halftime hit his 300th La Liga goal – joining great rival Lionel Messi as the only two men to achieve the feat.
Getafe’s task got ever harder when striker Loic Remy got his marching orders in the 47th minute for a second yellow card, but the visitors still threatened a comeback at 2-0 as Francisco Portillo converted a penalty after a foul by Nacho on Jorge Molina.
But as he’s so often doe in his career, Ronaldo had the last word, rising highest to nod in substitute Marcelo’s cross at the near post 12 minutes from time to put the tie to bed as Real now turn their attention to what could be a season-defining Champions League second leg with PSG on Tuesday.
Victory takes Los Blancos seven points behind second-placed Atletico Madrid, who play table-toppers Barcelona in a mouth-watering clash at the Camp Nou on Sunday.
