In yet another worrying instance of jungle justice, an angry mob at Oloki Junction, Ede in Osun State on Tuesday killed a final year Building Technology student of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Fisayo Olorunfemi.
The deceased, who drove a Toyota Camry car, hit a motorcycle and the passenger on the pillion of the bike, killing him on the spot.
The death of the 18-year-old girl, Islamat Bello, angered some youths who descended on the student and mobbed him to death.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Fimihan Adeoye confirmed the incident, saying it was worrisome that some people could resort to mob action and take the life of another human being over an accident.
“I’m surprised and worried that people can still engage in mob action in this age over an accident. They just killed that student for nothing because his death now cannot bring the young lady back. It was very unfortunate. People should shun this kind of uncivilised behaviour,” Adeoye said.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State Police Command, Folashade Odoro confirmed to Daily Trust that the corpses of the student and the motorcycle passenger have been deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital Ede as law and order gradually returns to the town.
