American Evangelist, Billy Graham, Dies at 99

Billy Graham is dead.

According to CNN, the evangelist’s spokesman Jeremy Blume confirmed that he died on Wednesday at his home in Montreat, North Carolina.

Billy Graham reportedly was a confidant to presidents, and prayed with, and counseled, former presidents including Harry Truman, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. He also was a famous globetrotter, who journeyed round the world, taking the gospel to over 215 million people in 185 countries, and persuaded more than 3 million people to commit their lives to Jesus Christ, over six decades.

While some called him America’s pastor, other branded him the “protestant pope.”

“He was probably the dominant religious leader of his era; no more than one or two popes, perhaps one or two other people, could come close to what he achieved,” William Martin, a former historian, said.

And presently, tributes are pouring in from across the world in celebration of the evangelist’s well-lived life.

Billy Graham was 99.
