Nigerians were jolted to brutal reality Tuesday night following the murder of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh.
Badeh died from gunshot wounds sustained when his vehicle was attacked by unknown gunmen while he was returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, confirmed his death saying: “It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce the unfortunate demise of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, who died today, 18 Dec 18, from gunshot wounds sustained when his vehicle was attacked while returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road.”
“On behalf officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar, commiserates with the family of the late former Chief of Defence Staff over this irreparable loss. We pray that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest.”
Badeh before his death was being prosecuted by the EFCC for alleged N3.9 billion fraud while in office during the Goodluck Jonathan administration – a charge he denied.
While it is not clear who murdered the former defence chief, or the motive for the heinous crime, Nigerians have taken to social media to express frustration with the state of the nation as another election period approaches.
Ex-chief of Defense Staff, Alex Badeh, strong critic of the @MBuhari government, was just assassinated along Abuja-Keffi Rd. This is a man who knew a lot about the inner workings of this government. His death must be investigated. It is too convenient. You may be next #RenosDarts

The brutal murder of the former Chief of Defence Staff and former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh, is a despicable and cowardly act. Those that were behind it shall not escape justice and they will pay a terrible price for their wickedness. God will avenge!

Nigeria is on a low. A 4-star General killed like a chicken, just like that. That means the rest of us are just on a queue.
May Alex Badeh's soul rest in peace.

If Alex Badeh, a former Chief of defense staff and 4-star General can be easily ambushed and killed just like that, then I don’t even know again. Let’s just vote God in the 2019 elections.

Even pops that was a 2 Star General, we still have Military personnel in all our houses. How come they were able to shoot Alex Badeh, a 4 star General? 🤔

If a former Chief of Defense Staff Alex Badeh can be assassinated under Buhari's government.
A ★ ★ ★ ★ General with govt security escorts was killed by gunmen along Abuja – Keffi, then no one is safe in 🇳🇬 again under PMB!
I curse the day APC was born.
RIP General 😭😭 pic.twitter.com/RTaJQmJjj3
