The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has been shut down after thugs invaded the complex Monday morning.
The thugs suspected to be hired by a sacked All Progressives Congress lawmaker, Idongesit Ituen, besieged the complex and barricaded it, causing pandemonium in the capital Uyo.
Chanting ‘APC, Change’ slogan, the thugs stopped lawmakers including the Speaker, Barr. Onofiok Luke entrance to the complex.
It is understood that the irate youths were agitating for the reinstatement of Idongesit Ituen, member representing Itu state constituency who was sacked by the Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Sources say on getting to know about today’s plenary in commemoration of the 80th birthday of former governor, Victor Attah by the State House of Assembly, the embattled lawmaker allegedly organized the thugs to disrupt the session as well as hinder the Speaker from declaring his seat vacant as scheduled today.
The state government has since detailed some policemen to restore calm to the Assembly.
