Akpeyi Dropped, Iheanacho Returns for Ukraine Friendly

Kelechi Iheanacho returns to the side as Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr calls up 23 players for the Super Eagles’ international friendly with Ukraine.

The match is scheduled for Dnipro Arena, in Dnipro, Ukraine, on Tuesday, 10th September during the Fifa international break.

Alongside Iheanacho, Tyronne Ebuehi, who missed the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals where Nigeria won bronze due to injury, has been recalled after recovering from injury.

Midfielder Oluwasemilogo Ajayi, dropped from the AFCON squad, also returns for the clash with the Europeans.

Germany–based goalkeeper Emil Maduka Okoye has been invited for the first time, as Scotland–based midfielder Joe Aribo, but there is no place for South Africa–based goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.

Ukraine is rated 25th on the FIFA ranking while Nigeria is 33rd.
