The last quarter-final match in this year’s Aiteo Federation Cup comes up today between Enyimba FC of Aba and Kano Pillars at the Pantami stadium in Gombe.
The clash between the ‘big two’ of Nigerian football has been dubbed the final before final, with the winner expected to go all the way to the finals to be played on October 14 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba, Delta State.
Already through to the last four are Enugu Rangers, who defeated defending champions Akwa United 4-2 on penalties, Katsina United and Nasarawa United after they edged out Kwara United and El-Kanemi Warriors 3-1 and 1-0 respectively.
Following the draws, Rangers will play Nasarawa United in Kano in the first semi-final while the winner between Kano Pillars and Enyimba will book a date with Katsina United in the second semi-final to be decided in Lagos.
While there are exciting games to look forward to in the Aiteo Cup, all eyes will be in the north-eastern city of Gombe for the Pillars v Enyimba clash.
Both sides parade some of the best players in the Nigerian professional football league and come with loads of experience.
Enyimba, still reeling from their Caf Confederations Cup semifinal home reverse against Raja Casablanca, have set their sights at redemption in Aiteo Cup.
It remains to be seen what Pillars think about that.
