At least two people have been killed in Zamfara State following an attack at a market by unknown gunmen.
This comes as the state police command announced the arrest of 117 miscreants responsible for a series attack on communities in the besieged north-west state.
Channels reports that the incident occurred on Thursday evening when gunmen attacked the market in Karakai village, Bungudu Local Government Area of the state, firing shots and in the process leaving two dead and three others injured.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the spokesman of the Zamfara Police Command, Mohammed Shehu, said, “There were gunshots by gunmen at the market, and in the process, two people were killed while three others were injured.
“During the attack, the police team at the market could not exchange fire with the attackers to avoid further loss of lives and property.”
Mr Shehu added that the attackers used the crowd as a human shield to escape from the scene.
He stated that normalcy has been restored with patrol teams keeping vigilance in the affected environs, while the command has launched an investigation with a view to fish out and arrest the culprits.
