The young Stallions of Burkina Faso on Friday shocked the Flying Eagles of Nigeria 2-0 to clinch Gold in the finals of the Africa Games football event in Morocco.
The Flying Eagles had dispatched Mali 5-4 on penalties to reach the finals only to fall to the Burkinabe as Nigeria’s quest for Africa games gold continues.
Paul Aigbogun’s side had come into the final in high spirits, but could not match the feat of the female side who clinched football gold for Nigeria.
With the two goals in the kitty of the stallions, efforts by Flying Eagles to turn the table proved abortive as the stallions held tenaciously and guarded their victory to the end.
Senegal had beaten Mali 4-3 on penalty to win the bronze medal after the match ended goalless.
