Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has taken to Facebook to launch his campaign for the 2019 presidential election.

This brings an end to uncertainties surrounding his controversial ambition to seek reelection as governor in 2018 following his botched first term in office.

Fayose’s impeachment in 2006 had been voided by the Supreme Court, sparking debates that he could return to see out his term.

However, the Ekiti strongman, who’s also the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, has now turned his attention to seizing power at the centre in 2019.

His ambition is not without complications as the former ruling party has zoned the presidency to the northern region of the country and there are no indications yet that they’re willing to shift the post for him.

Also, there are whispers in certain quarters that he’s merely positioning himself to be running mate of whoever emerges as the presidential candidate.

Fayose was a vocal critic of ousted PDP chairman Ali Modu-Sheriff and threatened to dump the party had the Supreme Court not ruled in favour of Sen Ahmed Makarfi.

Meanwhile, the main organs of the PDP – led by Caretaker Committee chair, Makarfi – are scheduled to have a crucial meeting in Abuja on Monday and Tuesday on the way forward.
