After the horrors of having his penis cut off by his stepmom in Niger State, nine-month-old Buhari Muhammad is well on the path of recovery after undergoing his first corrective surgery at the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, Niger.
According to Mrs. Mariam Kolo, the Director-General of the state Child Rights Protection Agency, the surgery was part of the series of operations that the child would undergo before regaining fullness, Punch writes.
“He was operated upon by four neurologists and he is responding to treatment,” she said.
“Several other tests will still be conducted to prepare him for the next operation.”
Barely one-month-old, baby Buhari became the hapless victim of envy last June when his stepmom, Bara’atu Muhammad cut off by his genitals in a bid to spite his mother.
The grotesque crime threw the entire Dafe community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State in shock, leading to the arrest of Bara’atu.
Bara’atu, who remains without child after seven years of marriage, confessed to being envious of the new wife (Amariya) who bore the husband a son, hence her decision to get back at the family.
She was immediately arrested and charged to court on one count of attempted homicide before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Minna, and has been remanded in the Minna Medium Security Prison.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, the suspect was still in Minna Prison, pending the conclusion of investigations.
“Under the Police Criminal Law, the suspect is an adult, she is above seven years; therefore, she can be convicted and hanged for the offence.”
