Ronaldo spends £20,000 on waxwork of himself
Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has spent £20,000 on a waxwork of himself to be placed in his Spanish mansion.
The Portugal captain asked British sculptor Michael Wade to make the sculpture after making numerous visits to see a similar statue of himself in the Madrid Museum of Wax.
The 30-year-old Ballon d’or holder went as far as getting his personal hairdresser to ensure the wax figure has his trademark hairstyle.
The statue, wearing a full Portugal football kit, was flown from Heathrow to Madrid in a crate, with the head packed separately.
Ronaldo, one of the vainest sportsmen alive, finally saw the waxwork for the first time when it arrived at the museum.
It will now be sent on a tour of Europe before taking pride of place in Ronaldo’s mansion, west of Madrid.
‘Cristiano told us to be sure his figure was perfect,’ Gonzalo Presa, the museum’s communication director told Spanish newspaper Cadena Ser Catalunya.
‘He sent his own hairstylist to brush his figure once a month. Cristiano’s (the waxwork’s) hair is natural. It is not a wig and it comes from India.’
The waxwork of Ronaldo already in the Museum of Wax, where it has stood since 2013, gets a once a month check-up from his beauty professional.
