Precious Nwaigwe was just 15 years old when she was abducted and trafficked to Libya to become a sex slave. She had come home to spend a holiday with her father in Ajah and was on her way back to school at Ikenne Community College in Ogun State in May 2014 when she was taken.
It was only weeks after her abduction, when her school contacted her family regarding her non-appearance, that it became apparent that the girl was missing. The family immediately reported the case to the police, but investigations proved abortive until they were contacted by her kidnappers, who were in Niger at the time, and told to pay a ransom of $100,000.
It is believed that the girl was sold to a pimp in Libya following the family’s non-payment of the ransom. However after the detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad interrogated one of the suspects, Kevin Kizito, they managed to establish contact with the girl’s abductors and secure her release.
It has been established that some of her maternal relatives were accomplices in the crime.
She has now been returned to her family, as she was dropped off at Obalende on Friday April 24th — an event which has been confirmed by her father. An official statement from the girl’s family is expected.
