On Friday (today), the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos heard the case of an alleged abduction and rape of a 14-year-old girl, which transpired between Jan 31 and Feb 1, 2017.
The accused persons are 21-year-old Praise Essien and a 17-year-old male whose name is undisclosed.
According to Punch, both suspects are apprentices who reside in Irepodun Close, Shasha, a suburb of Lagos. And the charges against the suspects are conspiracy, abduction and rape.
The court was informed that the above offences were committed between the said dates at the Shasha residence of the accused.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, said that the victim, a 14-year-old girl (names withheld) was abducted by the accused as she made her way home on Bester St., Akowonjo, Lagos. Thereafter, the suspects then took her to their residence.
According to Sgt Donny, “The second accused, the 17-year-old boy, was the one that raped the girl.”
The police prosecutor also said that the suspects released the girl the day after. In response, the accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The offences committed by the accused are said to contravene Sections 259, 267 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Mrs Davies Abegunde, the Chief Magistrate who heard the case, granted the accused a N100,000 bail each with two sureties in like sum. The case was further adjourned by the Magistrate to March 16 for mention.
