OTV Naija Cuisine: The Surprising Health Benefits of Paw Paw Seeds

Paw Paw

My days at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State was marked by several memorable moments.

One of the many was my first major cooking disaster. I was in 100 level and I had decided to surprise my then boyfriend with a meal of Jollof spaghetti. The only problem with that idea back then? I had absolutely no clue how to make Jollof spaghetti.

It was a trial and error experience and let’s just say, it ended up a terrible trial and a woeful failure. Not only did I think palm oil was the ingredient that made Jollof spaghetti (and rice) red, but my boyfriend suffered a serious heartburn and upset stomach. Thank God he was kind enough to forgive me.

Another memorable moment was in my 200 level when my French 205 teacher, who took us in Translation, turned one of his lectures to a health class. His name was Monsieur Saah, a Cameroonian who smelled like garlic and wore a permanent scowl on his face. A classmate of mine had been absent from lectures as a result of food poisoning and after hearing the reason for his absence, Monsieur Saah decided we needed to be intimated on the benefits of healthy eating. During his health talk, he shared with us the medicinal values and health benefits of Paw Paw seeds and how they were the perfect remedy for my classmate’s food poisoning.

Well, my classmate tried Monsieur’s Paw Paw seeds remedy and it worked!
